All Info on YourTeacherAI: This is Exactly How Not to Do It!

The design and didactic concept at YourTeacherAI are very simple: There is only a single function; you can have written or spoken conversations with one of various virtual persons. These are not divided into lessons; there is no learning path or any structures with a fixed start or end. Instead, you can start and stop at any time and accordingly talk about all sorts of topics with the AI.

So far, so good – if the whole thing were better implemented didactically. Because unfortunately, questionable decisions have been made here in some places, which negatively affect the didactic implementation.

For example, most of the screen is gaping emptiness because the conversation history is not displayed. Your own messages or statements are generally not shown, and even what the AI says disappears as soon as a new sentence is uttered. This is not only visually unappealing – you also simply benefit long-term from being able to view past conversations and corrections.

There is also a counter in the program that collects used and understood (i.e., used by the AI) words – however, this is purely a statistic and has no function. You could do so much with this, such as a vocabulary trainer or a dictionary – it is absolutely incomprehensible to us why such possibilities were not used.

There are a few setting options and several AI counterparts – however, the program is generally not really better than a free bot on the internet. There are no additional functions or unique selling propositions. The feedback is sporadic and not very detailed; if you want to learn long-term, you have to take a screenshot of every message. Oh dear…

What Does the Provider Cost?

Currently, YourTeacherAI offers three subscription options, each unlocking all available languages and teachers. Prices and packages are structured as follows:

It’s immediately noticeable – we’ve mentioned that tax is added on top of the price. The “nasty” surprise only comes when you’re already in the process of entering your credit card details. This is unusual, and we consider it less than transparent. Unfair, especially since the courses are already quite expensive – particularly in view of the content offered and in direct comparison with similar providers.

Unfortunately, we have more criticisms: You can only pay via the website with a credit card – there are no other options. While you can use respective stored payment methods through the App or Play Store, the subscription packages there are more expensive than on the internet. The trial phase and cancellation terms are also simply not as user-friendly as is often the case nowadays. A pity!

Conclusion: YourTeacherAI is Not Worth Recommending…

Generally, YourTeacherAI gives us the impression that they are working with the absolute minimum for a functioning app in many areas. Yes, the program does what it’s supposed to do: offer conversations with an AI. But there is absolutely nothing that currently distinguishes the AI tutor didactically, design-wise, or with any special charm. You might as well just use ChatGPT completely free for language learning, and entirely for free.

To put it plainly: YourTeacherAI is too expensive for what it offers. We simply cannot recommend the program at this time. Especially when you look at the first three providers in this article – Langotalk, Aimigo, and Univerbal are much better didactically designed, partly significantly cheaper, and often much more user-friendly than YourTeacherAI.
