Furthermore, Mosalingua shines in our review with very good value for money. All these points ensure that Mosalingua has now even secured a spot on the podium of our Top 10 Language Course Recommendations. Well done!
Below you will find the detailed review, with all the pros and cons. We share our experience with Mosalingua from 4 intensive weeks of testing. You can find more information in our comprehensive Mosalingua Guide.
🡳 Mosalingua In-Depth Review 🡳
Mosalingua’s slogan is “Learn words, enjoy the world”. The concept is actually just as simple: a flashcard system, but now with many high-quality additional features. We took a closer look at how well this actually works in this 2025 Mosalingua review.

Mosalingua Experience: What Did We Test?
Mosalingua currently offers courses for 10 languages, and the selection is constantly expanding. To get a clear picture, I chose Spanish, a language in which I have only very basic prior knowledge, as well as English, which I speak fluently at a C1 level. This allowed me to approach the program unbiasedly as a typical learner and gather Mosalingua experiences with content for both beginners and advanced users.

‒ The Best Language Course of 2025 ‒
We’ve tested dozens of language courses…
But only ONE takes the #1 spot!
We tested the premium version of Mosalingua on both Android and iOS operating systems. Additionally, there is a web application, making the language courses usable on almost any device.
Scope and Features: What Does Mosalingua Offer?
Which languages can you learn with Mosalingua, what courses are available, and what unique features distinguish the program?
Available Languages and Courses
Mosalingua currently offers courses in eleven languages for English speakers:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Spanish
A lot has happened here in recent years, and the offering is regularly optimized and expanded. Additionally, there are special courses for some languages: for example, you can specialize in business vocabulary or prepare for the TOEFL test in English.
Mosalingua is available for Apple devices, Android operating systems, or as a PC program. The basic version is free but only includes the vocabulary trainer and not all the features that make Mosalingua special.

Unfortunately, there’s a clear distinction here: For iOS users, all languages and courses are available in one app, while Android users have to download a separate app for each course – there are four different apps just for the English language. This definitely needs to be adjusted, as it’s currently very cumbersome and consumes a huge amount of storage space.
Special Features – What’s New with Mosalingua?
Years ago, despite a promising slogan, the app was just a simple, cluttered vocabulary trainer without many extra features. Today, things look very different: Besides the SRS-based, brain-friendly learning method, the premium version now also includes a wide range of content.

There’s a dictionary with a practical search function, grammar lessons, dialogues in video format with subtitles and transcript, music videos, educational videos, and an artificial intelligence that you can use for chatting and implementing your own vocabulary cards. This is much more than just vocabulary learning: alongside linguistic backgrounds and the associated culture, you can easily adapt the language course to your own interests, especially through the AI feature. There are no limits to your imagination here.
And all the other new features have also been didactically prepared – you can tell someone put a lot of thought into it. Plus, there’s no need to fear being overwhelmed by the multitude of functions: At the beginning, there are always small tutorials that appear on the screen explaining each feature. It could hardly be done better!
User-Friendliness: How Easy is Mosalingua to Use?
A friendly design and, above all, a clear user interface are decisive factors for many users when choosing a language course. Can Mosalingua score points here too?
Appealing Design and Lots of Buttons
Mosalingua’s design remains rather simple. Nevertheless, much has changed since our last review: previously it was almost entirely black and white, today the app design is significantly more appealing with bright, friendly colors that don’t look kitschy.
Where not much has changed: Mosalingua is a bit cluttered. This is partly due to the number of old and new features, but especially in the premium area, you initially have to click around quite a bit. On the left side of the screen, in the basic course alone, there are a proud 11 menu items. And that only covers the vocabulary trainer! More streamlining could be done here, for example, by combining items like Settings, Info, and Contact into a kind of help menu.

Additionally, the many great functions could be showcased better instead of being lumped together in the “Premium” tab: this tab contains 12 more features that actually justify our good rating.
Even if it’s cumbersome: with a little familiarization time and a few misclicks, you should eventually get the hang of it. However, the program is less suitable for less tech-savvy people compared to similar software, such as Mondly, which provides a clear learning path. There’s still room for improvement, and better navigation would round off the Mosalingua experience.
Pop-Up Tutorials Guide You Through the Learning Method
Despite initial difficulties with navigation, there’s a great feature that makes getting started with Mosalingua easier. After logging into the app for the first time, every new tab you open displays a small help text that automatically appears and explains the clicked function. And it looks like this:

This not only shows you how the app works, but sometimes also the neuroscientific background of some features. This gives you additional motivation by explaining the “Why?”, showing what each feature targets in the brain. Always with the goal of learning faster and more sustainably.
Interim Conclusion – Mosalingua’s User-Friendliness
Mosalingua has significantly improved its simple design in recent years. The app is now visually appealing, and the introduction works wonderfully with small, integrated pop-ups. A lot has happened here, hats off!

‒ The Best Language Course of 2025 ‒
We’ve tested dozens of language courses…
But only ONE takes the #1 spot!
However, we still have one small point of criticism: The menu navigation is somewhat convoluted. This is not only cumbersome for users, but also the many great features that Mosalingua now has (and is constantly expanding!) are not well highlighted this way. Especially in conjunction with the well-thought-out pop-up tutorials, there’s still potential for improvement here. But this is complaining at a high level. A lot has improved, and we are excited to see what develops in the future.
Didactic Concept: How Successfully Can I Learn with Mosalingua?
The heart of any language course – and the most relevant part for the learning effect – is definitely the didactic concept. In our last Mosalingua review, we still had some points to criticize here. How does it look today?
Scientifically Based Learning with SRS
Mosalingua’s didactic concept also provides the name for the application. The MOSALearning® (Motivating Optimized System for Adaptive Learning) method includes principles such as learning only the most important vocabulary (i.e., the approx. 3000 – 6000 most frequently used words) and a Spaced Repetition Algorithm.
The latter states that vocabulary is repeated exactly when you are about to forget it. As learning progresses, the intervals between repetitions become increasingly longer. This is explained to the user in a short video upon first launching and setting up the app – excellent! If you want to know more about SRS, we recommend taking a look at this article.
You Decide What You Learn!
The core of the course, the vocabulary trainer, basically consists of classic flashcard learning with various functions. You can search the entire pool of several thousand words and phrases and precisely select which cards you personally find relevant, then incorporate them into your learning routine accordingly. Filters and categories help with the search.

Another feature is the ability to add your own vocabulary. These are then even voiced by a (synthetic) voice. While this doesn’t quite match the pre-made cards voiced by native speakers, it’s a good approach. You can also create entire vocabulary collections here and sort them according to your own system. Great! Additionally, the creation feature is integrated into the AI, more on that later.
Very occasionally, there are images associated with the cards, but by no means for all of them, so you usually just have the written word in front of you. However, this isn’t a major issue, as the audio pronunciation is more important for the learning process anyway.
Lesson Structure: More Than Just a Flashcard System
A typical Mosalingua learning unit consists of 4 stages. The very first one encourages you to speak: the vocabulary is read aloud in the target language, and the learner is prompted to repeat the word and record themselves doing so. This happens directly within the program! Afterwards, the two recordings can be compared, and the English translation is displayed.

Next comes memorization. This involves classic flashcards: you are given a word in the foreign language and can then flip the card by tapping it to see the translation. The goal here, of course, is to know the corresponding English word yourself before flipping the card.
The third stage is called “Writing”. However, you don’t actually have to write, but rather find the solution using the provided letters (or sometimes syllables for long words and sentences). If you can’t figure out where to start, the system can even give you a hint revealing the first letter. This exercise could be made more challenging, but in principle, it’s certainly not bad.

Finally, the “Self-Assessment” stage follows. This is again a classic quiz, but now you not only have to indicate whether you knew the answer or not, but also assess how difficult you found recalling the word. This information is used to determine the time until the next repetition.
“Hidden” Additional Features – What Else Does Mosalingua Offer?
Besides the main content, the vocabulary, Mosalingua offers a whole range of useful, well-thought-out additional features. These are hidden in various sections of the “Explore” menu and under the “Premium” tab. There, for example, you can delve a bit into foreign grammar or listen to native speakers talking about their daily lives in dialogues.
This includes arguably the most interesting addition: The AI feature, i.e., artificial intelligence. Here you can converse with a computer-based “person” in your chosen foreign language. Thanks to an algorithm, it adapts not only to your individual language level but also to your personal interests.

During my Mosalingua review, the AI not only engaged me in a genuinely interesting conversation that went beyond typical small talk, but it also corrected errors while still understanding what I meant and responding appropriately. And it gets even better: I could add the corrected version of my sentence directly as a new learning card with the click of a button. Such a good use of artificial intelligence is rare – it makes learning not only interesting but also effective. High praise to Mosalingua, this is truly a unique, well-thought-out feature.
Additionally, there is numerous bonus content, some accessible with the premium subscription, some only with external paid expansion packs. This includes an extensive grammar database with clear explanations and numerous examples, dialogue and conversation examples, and pronunciation training. For use on the go, there is also a hands-free mode.

Additionally, Mosalingua offers a huge collection of video and text materials. These include high-quality produced explanation videos, culturally relevant songs, and much more, all appropriately prepared didactically. In languages like Russian, there are corresponding explanations for the alphabet, etc.
Furthermore, there is a browser plugin that allows you to directly add new vocabulary cards to Mosalingua from any website while surfing – this is also unique and helps integrate learning processes into everyday life. Excellent!
Room for Improvement, Mosalingua!
Despite a remarkable leap and many good updates in recent years, Mosalingua is naturally not perfect. However, all our points of criticism are rather minor issues that can be easily fixed and thus eliminated in the coming years.
Right from the start, a few technical shortcomings are noticeable. This includes, for example, the fact that there isn’t a unified app for Mosalingua on Android devices. Here, you have to download a separate app for each language and also for all additional courses, which is absolutely outdated and should definitely be changed. And not everything works smoothly on iOS either: with some software updates, the audio playback for flashcards doesn’t work, which is a shame. Loading times within the app are also occasionally a bit long, disrupting the learning flow.

‒ The Best Language Course of 2025 ‒
We’ve tested dozens of language courses…
But only ONE takes the #1 spot!
Besides that, some of the tasks are unfortunately a bit undemanding and based only on self-assessment. For example, in the “writing tasks,” there are pre-made letters or even whole syllables, which lowers the difficulty level of the exercise. This is also the only type of task where you receive feedback from the app: neither the speaking exercise nor your own rating of the cards is checked by the program. Unfortunately, errors can creep in this way – this core function has also never been significantly changed, which it’s slowly time for.
Interim Conclusion: Didactics in the Mosalingua Review
Based on my Mosalingua experience, not only the design but especially the didactic concept has improved immensely. The vocabulary trainer still relies heavily on reproduction at its core, but it is now much easier to use and personalize. However, the additional functions particularly stand out: whether you’re looking for learning texts, prepared videos, or conversation with artificial intelligence – you’ll find it with Mosalingua. And the ability to directly transfer content into flashcard learning is fantastic.
So, if you can overlook a few minor technical flaws, Mosalingua is now not just a wonderful addition to any learning plan. No, Mosalingua can now be the integral part of any learning strategy. A language learning solution that comes with a whole range of possibilities. Great.
Target Audience: Who is Mosalingua For?
Mosalingua is suitable for anyone looking for a good vocabulary trainer with plenty of additional features. It complements any learning strategy, but the provider can also form the main part of a learning plan, provided you use the full range of Mosalingua’s offerings. Generally, we recommend the app primarily for people who can motivate themselves well, as Mosalingua does not focus on gamification; Mondly is better for that. Thanks to the exciting, interest-based features, however, this isn’t a major problem.

‒ The Best Language Course of 2025 ‒
We’ve tested dozens of language courses…
But only ONE takes the #1 spot!
Due to the general audio recordings for all learning cards and the huge database of (music) videos, audio plays, and additional material, auditory learners will get their money’s worth. Thanks to the new AI feature, literary/reading-writing learning types are now also included: Here you can chat with the artificial intelligence to your heart’s content – about any topic, and if desired, with lengthy texts that can then be directly integrated into the learning process.
Price-Value: Is Buying Mosalingua Worth It?
The basic course is free for all languages but only includes the vocabulary trainer. If you want to unlock all features, you have two options:
- Monthly subscription: $9.99 per month
- Annual subscription: $5.99 per month (billed annually at $71.88)
Additionally, Mosalingua occasionally offers special deals, for example during Black Friday, where you can unlock all languages in the premium version for life with a one-time payment. However, the availability and price of this fluctuate. It’s best to check via the button below if the offer is currently available. Or click here and check out our list of the best language course discounts. If Mosalingua is running a promotion, it will be listed in this post.
Additionally, there is a 7-day free trial period, which automatically converts into an annual subscription after the time expires. So it’s best to cancel in time if you decide against Mosalingua’s offer.
What Do You Get for Your Money with Mosalingua?
Besides the basic course with vocabulary training and dictionary, there are a number of additional services unlocked with the premium subscription. Costs at Mosalingua therefore apply for…
- Mosa AI Chat (300 minutes free, all languages)
- Movies, learning videos, music videos with transcript and subtitles
- Web plugin MosaDiscovery, enables language learning while browsing
- Books and texts for learning
- Grammar lessons
- Pronunciation training
- Hands-free mode
Furthermore, there are some additional services that can be booked for an extra fee. These are available either for all or only for selected languages, usually English, Spanish, French, and Italian. These include:
- MosaSeries, a series of audio dramas (selected languages)
- MosaSpeak, conversation training (selected languages)
- MosaTraining, language learning tips for self-study (all languages)
- MosaLingua Live Coaching, lessons with teachers (selected languages)
- Mosa AI Chat additional credits (all languages)
Interim Conclusion – Which Features Are Worth the Money?
The basic course is free, providing a good vocabulary trainer with a scientifically based method and the option to add your own content. Beyond that, however, features in the basic version are thin, which is why we clearly recommend the premium version of Mosalingua. With this, you not only get a range of high-quality functions and content, but the price-value ratio is also right.

The situation is somewhat different for the paid additional offers that go beyond the premium subscription. Compared to other providers with a similar concept, these are rather expensive and are really only worthwhile if you can purchase them in a bundle at a discount price.
Alternatives: Are There Better Options Than Mosalingua?
Here we recommend three alternatives that, in our opinion, can more than keep up with Mosalingua, but pursue very different approaches themselves. Our selection of Mosalingua alternatives is:
Mondly – Motivation Done Differently
Mondly appeals to different learning types with its multi-layered concept. While you initially learn only vocabulary, these are gradually practiced in sentences. Thus, Mondly is a great combination of vocabulary trainer and complete language course. Anyone wanting to learn a language long-term will be wonderfully introduced and accompanied here. Especially since the operation is more intuitive than is the case with Mosalingua.
What particularly distinguishes Mondly, however, is the fact that hardly any other course motivates us to learn long-term like Mondly does. Features like leaderboards and the ability to connect with friends contribute to this. And the price-performance ratio also speaks for Mondly, because with the lifetime offer, you get lifelong access to a whole 41 languages for a one-time payment of about $120 – excellent!
Langotalk – The Newcomer That Stunned Us
If you want a completely different method, Langotalk might be for you. It’s an intelligent, AI-based language tutor that not only lets you practice what you‘ve learned in creative conversation prompts, it also teaches you new input based on your personal preferences. We were super impressed!
And yes, they have a fair lifetime offer, letting you grab all 20+ languages and courses forever, often for only a little over $100. With a free trial, there’s nothing to lose.
Gymglish – Your Personal Language Course
Gymglish promises a lot with its concept – and delivers impressively across the board. The lessons are engaging and didactically well-designed. Particularly special is the AI-based, personalized learning. Sounds good in theory and works almost flawlessly in practice. No other language course, with the exception of the new AI conversation courses, adapts so strongly to one’s own learning level and goals as Gymglish does. Furthermore, the initial lessons serve as a placement test. So you can test your language skills for free.
Furthermore, we find the pricing transparent and a very long trial period is fair. Especially since it doesn’t lead into a subscription trap. You can freely choose whether you want to unlock the language course after the test. However, Gymglish is also in a different price category and is almost three times as expensive as Mosalingua. Nevertheless, the provider is definitely worth a look!

Conclusion: Mosalingua Review 2025 – We’re Impressed!
— More Than Just a Vocabulary Trainer and a Clear Top Recommendation —
Just two years ago, our conclusion was: “Mosalingua is nothing special.” We can no longer claim that in any way today: The app has evolved from an average vocabulary trainer into a language course with creative, well-thought-out additional features. Excellent!
With an appealing user interface, a good introduction to the language course, and a whole range of content in various formats, we can recommend Mosalingua to most learners without reservation. There are now several possibilities for personalization that wonderfully round off the scientifically based learning concept. The price-value ratio is also right, and the 7-day free trial period is absolutely fair!
Only a few minor points remain to be criticized: Sometimes loading times in the app are a bit longer, navigation takes some getting used to due to the many options, and Mosalingua currently hardly uses gamification. Nevertheless – the good implementation of the learning method and the diverse mix of bonus content clearly outweigh the negatives, so we say: Mosalingua belongs on every language learner’s smartphone!
