Mondly was founded in 2014 in Brașov, Romania, by Alex and Tudor Iliescu. Their vision was to revolutionize language learning through innovative technology paired with proven methodologies. Since its inception, Mondly has seen steady growth and is now one of the leading language programs worldwide.
Mondly’s success is driven by the combination of quality content and cutting-edge tech. Its brain-friendly method avoids rote memorization altogether. Interactive AI-driven lessons, placement tests, and augmented reality features enhance the learning experience. Lesson plans are continuously fine-tuned based on user data.
What Mondly Offers
Initially focusing on 33 languages, Mondly added eight more in 2020, bringing its total to 41. These structured courses include a range of interactive exercises and a creative dialogue mode.
They‘re always widening their bandwidth – for example, you can now take English tests for official language certificates.
What Does the Future Hold?
Some time ago, Mondly was acquired by Pearson, the world’s largest education publisher and a market leader in countries like the UK, New Zealand, and India. Pearson is also a significant player in language learning in other global markets.
After joining Pearson, Mondly introduced more futuristic features such as its virtual assistant LUNA, which uses artificial intelligence to practice everyday conversations. There’s also a new placement test. Currently, both features are only available for English learners, and that seems to be Mondly’s focus for the near future. We’re excited to see what else is coming—and if these innovative features will expand to more languages soon.
