Langotalk is a language-tutor program powered by AI. You can interact with various virtual “people,” receiving real-time feedback. On top of that, Langotalk offers a wide range of lessons and exercises to cover your need for conversation practice as well as teach you new content.

We tested both the app and web version on multiple devices, ensuring we could try all of Langotalk’s features. Our main author focused on Spanish at roughly an A2 level, but we also dipped into other languages to see how it handles teaching a language from scratch.

By default, the Langotalk app is in English – but you can select different languages as your starting point for the lessons themselves. So no issue at all if English isn’t your native tongue! Langotalk currently offers 19 languages to study:

Depending on the language, you can fine-tune certain settings—like choosing between European or Latin American Spanish. You can also set a level in your profile, which the Langotalk tutor then adjusts to. Currently, there are five stages, from easiest to hardest: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Fluent, and Native Speaker. You self-select these; there’s no placement test available (yet).

After that, the lessons are sorted into themes – starting with basic conversations like introductions, then gradually becoming more advanced. These include everyday topics, interesting discussion prompts, moral questions, and role-play scenarios (like a job interview).

There’s also a Practice mode with vocabulary, grammar, and cultural lessons. Plus, you can instantly create your own lessons using the AI. Finally, Langotalk includes a variety of other modes, such as speaking mode and a designated vocabulary trainer.

Ease of Use: How Simple Is Langotalk?

User-friendly navigation and a neat design make for a smoother learning experience. So how does Langotalk fare in terms of usability?

Lively Design and a Good Learning Path

Open Langotalk for the first time, and you’ll immediately notice its charming aesthetic. There’s no faceless AI or generic “characters.” Instead, you’ll find various lovingly illustrated personalities, each with distinct traits and interests. This variety keeps things fresh and makes the platform feel more personal and realistic.

Overall, Langotalk is bright and inviting. Even though it offers many options, the interface is well-structured, and navigation is simple. Everything is cleverly categorized, labeled buttons make sense, and you don’t need to poke around aimlessly. In short: Our experience with Langotalk is that it’s intuitive and visually appealing.

Unfortunately, some brief text sections are buggy in terms of language, which might be annoying. The interface itself remains mostly English-language.

App vs. Web: What’s Going On, Langotalk?

Langotalk provides an app for Android and iOS as well as a browser-based solution. That’s fantastic in principle -and standard in the language-learning world – if your progress syncs across platforms. Right now, it doesn’t. The app and the web version differ in fundamental ways.

In the app, you follow a learning path. You select a broader path (like “Basic Conversations,” “Professional Life,” or “Travel,” among others) and then move through it in a preset order. Each completed lesson unlocks the next, so you progress linearly.

On the website, things are different: You’ll see various categories, each with around 8–10 conversation topics. You can freely hop around any topic that catches your interest – no forced sequence here.

In principle, this freedom is great – but occasionally you’ll run into software bugs. Sometimes messages don’t appear, or audio fails. A simple reload usually fixes it, so it’s not a major issue, just a minor annoyance after a while. That does not happen in the app version.

Overall, the app and web version differ in content and approach—so progress isn’t synced if you switch platforms. We’re not sure why. Your login data works everywhere, and local progress is saved, but you might lose track if you jump between devices. It’s unfortunate!

Midpoint Conclusion on Ease of Use: Some Ups and Downs

Langotalk’s interface is visually appealing, neat, and designed with care. The navigation is straightforward because everything is labeled intuitively. On first glance, there’s really nothing to fault.

However, our main critique does limit the user experience: The app and the web version aren’t synced, with differing structures and (sometimes) different content. That hurts the program’s flexibility. Also, certain bugs and errors (currently only on the website) crop up occasionally. Not a deal-breaker but a bit irritating at times.

Another note: Although you can learn from German as your base language, some of the text, buttons, and fields remain in English. You’ll need some English knowledge to use it smoothly. These are minor drawbacks and not reasons to skip the platform. Based on our Langotalk experience, though, they are areas with the most room for improvement.

Teaching Concept: How Effectively Can I Learn with Langotalk?

Unlike most other AI tutors, Langotalk isn’t just about reinforcing knowledge you already have. The practice section introduces brand-new vocabulary and grammar structures. Let’s look at the details!

Conversations with AI: Realistic Role-Play

Conversations with various AI-driven personalities are Langotalk’s main claim to fame. It’s part conversation partner, part tutor, giving constructive corrections or praise for what you say in real time.

Each conversation centers on a chosen topic, but the direction you take is entirely up to you: you can go deep, keep it small talk, or veer off completely. The AI partner will usually open with a question; every subsequent exchange depends on your input, just like talking to a real person.

The AI can play different roles—an interviewer in a job interview, a street-food vendor, or a date. That variety yields fresh angles and vocab challenges, depending on the context.

Users can either type or speak aloud; Langotalk transcribes your voice into chat form. You’ll always see your conversation history, and the AI’s corrections or feedback are based on your last message. The AI then speaks out loud as well, with a text transcript displayed on-screen—perfect if you’re in a quiet setting like a bus, where you can read instead of listen.

After each thing you say, the AI gives real-time feedback—either praising you or offering a constructive tip. Sometimes your grammar is fine but not quite how people talk in everyday life; the AI recognizes that too and proposes an alternative while noting your sentence was still “correct.” This approach is well-conceived and well-executed – we love to see it!

Content-wise, Langotalk has a ton on offer. It covers basic intros and personal details, plus more complex emotional discussions, moral questions, or typical topics like sports, TV, and hobbies. Under “Job Interviews,” “Growing in My Career,” and “Economics and Finance,” you’ll find advanced business vocab. Additional content is available in the lessons and exercise sections, which go even deeper and offer a ton of variation.

You can even play games with the AI. Some examples: guess a song or a word, play “Never Have I Ever,” or try “Two Truths and a Lie.” It all feels realistic and approachable – no other AI tutor currently gets closer to that human-like interaction than Langotalk does.

Vocabulary, Grammar, or Culture: Lessons in Our Langotalk Test

Langotalk offers a massive library, multiple lesson types, and a range of difficulty levels. That’s not all: If you can’t find what you want, you can have the AI generate a custom lesson in seconds with any prompt you like. No matter how specific!

Currently, Langotalk offers several lesson styles. The differences mostly come from how new content is introduced or existing knowledge is tested. You can also filter by difficulty or exercise format.

The “Learn a Topic” mode is where brand-new content is introduced, covering grammar, vocabulary, or cultural info. Langotalk already has a lot of built-in lessons, or you can have the AI whip up a custom one for any subject in mere seconds. Whether you’re clarifying the difference between “quedar” and “quedarse” in Spanish or learning about Swedish cuisine, Langotalk makes it happen.

For the Quiz mode, no new content is taught. Instead, the program asks quiz questions aligned with a topic and your skill level, generally multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank style.

Under Vocabulary, you’ll pick up new words or expressions around a specific theme. Langotalk already offers loads of these sets, sometimes surprisingly niche. Whether you want to learn words for produce, different metals, or advanced terms around paragliding – chances are you’ll find it. Or you can have the AI cook one up in under a minute; the possibilities are endless! This is perfect for specialized jobs or unique hobbies that most standard language courses don’t address.

With a Grammar Drill, you practice different structures in context. We found an extensive range of grammar lessons – past tenses, pronoun usage, or expressing sarcasm – and you can always generate more via AI.

There’s also a Speaking mode that simulates real-time conversations. Unlike the standard chat approach (where you can choose between typing or talking), you must speak into your mic for this mode. It’s an excellent warm-up for real-life conversations. Don’t worry – the program prompts you on what to say, so you can focus on pronunciation alone.

Finally, there’s a listening-comprehension mode on the horizon—but it’s not launched yet, so we haven’t tested it. We’ll update this article once it’s available.

Build Your Own Lesson: A Truly Unique Feature

We’ve mentioned this in passing multiple times now, but it’s unique enough to deserve a dedicated section: Langotalk lets users create custom lessons. Not only can you choose from multiple lesson formats, but you can also specify the language level and topic—no limits at all.

We had to experiment a lot in our Langotalk test, and the conclusion: it works flawlessly! No matter how unusual or niche your desired subject is, the AI generates a tailor-made lesson in under a minute at your specified level and format. That’s a first on the language-learning market, and it’s executed spectacularly.

We started small, requesting a lesson on “por” vs. “para” in Spanish, and got a concise yet solid explanation with relevant exercises. Then we tried a lesson about Ecuadorian cuisine, the popularity of archery in Bolivia, and holiday vocabulary for Halloween and Christmas – no issues. We even asked it to speak exclusively as though it’s in a cooking show, which worked fine. You can be as creative as you want!

We could fill a whole article talking about this feature alone. It opens limitless opportunities, especially for anyone needing industry-specific or unique vocabulary that conventional language courses overlook. We’re genuinely impressed!

It’s probably obvious already – we found Langotalk’s teaching method very convincing during our review. The AI-driven conversations are both inspiring and varied, while the feedback is genuinely constructive. Multiple virtual personalities further enhance context and make topics more engaging.

Target Audience: Who Is Langotalk For?

Given its many features, Langotalk is quite the all-rounder. You can have fascinating conversations on nearly any subject, but there’s also a huge variety of lessons and practice modules for brand-new topics. It can serve travelers just as well as professionals needing specialized vocabulary.

Still, as with most AI tutors, it helps to have some foundational knowledge before you get the most out of your AI conversations. A CEFR A1 level is enough to start building up from there. The more you already know, the better!

AI-based conversation courses are still quite new, so we weren’t sure what to expect going into this Langotalk review. We ended up pleasantly surprised! Langotalk delivers a wide range of features that make excellent use of AI, embedding it smartly into a language-learning platform. You’re not just reinforcing existing knowledge; you can learn new content however you like.

Langotalk remains a young company with big plans, and we’re excited to see how it evolves. Our only criticisms center on occasional bugs in the user interface, while the teaching approach and pricing both get top marks. And since there’s a free trial, you can test it out yourself without any risk!
