About LingQ

LingQ has been accessible since 2008. Ever since, it’s represented free language learning with a creative concept and an exciting community aspect. There’s also a story behind its name:

Origin and Founders

At the end of 2007 in Canada, polyglot Steve Kaufmann and his son Mark Kaufmann launched LingQ to share their passion for language learning with the world. Steve Kaufmann taught himself 19 languages fluently as an adult, after struggling with traditional French classes back in school.

Today, Steve is well-known among polyglots, running a popular YouTube channel, authoring several books, and maintaining a broad online presence.

What LingQ Offers

By now, LingQ supports nearly 50 languages, including some less commonly studied, such as Belarusian, Swahili, or Afrikaans. It also provides special content like premium lessons, e-books, and ways to network within the community. This community aspect lets you join regular learning challenges, submit your own texts for tutor feedback, or even take private online lessons.

All materials are recorded in high quality by native speakers. Each lesson includes text, matching audio, and several flashcard-style exercises. The wide selection of content is impressive, and you can even upload your own material to integrate into your study routine.

Conclusion — Give It a Try

If you’re feeling curious and want to experience LingQ for yourself, here’s your chance. You have nothing to lose—most features are free, as are registration and basic use.

One last tip: if you’re considering a LingQ subscription, always book it through the website instead of the app to save some money.
